My kids are HUGE chicken & noodle fans...but according to them, mine is never as good as Grandma's—until now. They loved this huge crock of chicken & noodles! Here's what you'll need:
Combine 3-4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, 2-10.75 cans of cream of chicken soup, 1/2 cup of butter (sliced) and 42 oz. of chicken broth in your crock pot. Cover & cook on low for 8 hours. An hour before serving, remove the chicken, shred it and return it to the slow cooker. (I forgot to take pictures of this part—sorry!)
The recipe calls for a 24 oz. package of frozen egg noodles, but I couldn't find frozen ones, so I just used bagged ones. Stir in the noodles, cover and cook another hour. If you are not using frozen noodles, I recommend keeping an eye on the noodles so they don't get over cooked & mushy. Once they are cooked to your desired consistency, you are ready to serve! The recipe calls for serving in bowls, but my kids like more noodles and less broth, so I just added a whole big bag of noodles, which made it thicker than the recipe actually called for, so we served them on plates with some veggies. You do your own thing and it will all be good.

ReplyDeleteI halved the recipe for just me and my husband. I also added fresh broccoli at the same time as the noodles to get some veg. Delicious recipe. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHi
ReplyDeleteDoes the recipe call for 2-42 oz containers of chicken broth or 1? The recipes reads 1 but the picture has 2.
Thank You Michele
Made this today and it was Devine. I used a 6 qt slow cooker. Chicken was thawed. I did make two small changes. I used two tablespoons of chicken base mixed with 5 cups of water instead of the broth and only cooked the chicken for 6 hours. Shredded the chicken and added back tot the pot with egg noodles for another 30 mins or so. Soooo very good. Will make again.
ReplyDeleteMade it a second time and this time I cut each breast into three strips and seasoned with poultry seasoning and celery salt. after I took the chicken out and shreaded it I put in One 16 oz thawed mixed vegetables. Then added 16 oz of dry egg noddles mixed and waited 5 minutes before adding the shreeded chicken back. Total time the noodles where in was 15 minutes, it was greater.
ReplyDeleteI am making this and it's my first recipe EVER using a slow cooker! I just used a 16 oz bag of noodles because I only used 2 chicken breasts, but I still used the same amount of liquids because I like it soupy :). I'll let you know how it goes - thanks for sharing the great recipe!
ReplyDeletesooooo yummy! made this today and its gone! I used bag noodles and it only took about 15 minutes, I didn't have to take my chicken out I used thin sliced and it literally broke apart as I stirred. next time I will add a veggie in the end
