Girls Weekend: Shopping Time

Some girls may get together and hit the mall. When me and my gal pals got together, we hit the state fairgrounds. Huh, you say? Yep! When we had our girls weekend, we packed up bright and early Saturday morning (ok, so maybe not so early...I mean, we did have breakfast at Cracker Barrel first) and headed to the Half Price Book's clearance sale at the state fairgrounds in Indianapolis.

What a deal, huh? Paperbacks were all $1 or less and hardbacks were all $3 or less. So what was the damage? About $50 and 3 Aleve that were necessary after lugging nearly a ton of books around on my very sun-burned shoulder (courtesy of our pool party.) Sigh. Even more depressing? Half the damage to the pocketbook was courtesy of the younger generation in attendance. Double sigh. But how do you say no to cute little blue yese begging for new books to read?
Here's some  of what Sissy came home with (about 4-5 books were MIA at picture time, having been scattered around the car and bedroom already).
That included some books for her and Grandma and their summer science lessons of the summer:
And she especially loved this book about night and day (she read it a zillion times on the way home).
And she's a big fan of Narnia. By the way, super excited to see the Dawn Treader preview at Eclipse!

And I had to get this one, since it was on my bookshelf as a child, too:
And since we all know by now that my kids love Star Wars, I picked up these novels. Even though they are 3, 5, and 7, they really enjoy reading a chapter or two of these at bedtime (and for momma, it beats the heck out of re-reading the same little Star Wars book for the zillionth time).
So what did Momma get? Some romance novels of course...including some new Diana Palmer.
And some new Sue Grafton "letters"....
And some Tom Clancy for the Old Man and I...

Guess I won't need to go book shopping for a while, huh? Hee, hee!

  3. That is so awesome that you read to them from starwars novels! They are going to have such a huge vocabulary. My little cousin, who is 10? is writing an "epic fantasy novel" and one of the lines is, "There appears to have been a disturbance, but I'm not privy to the details." It cracks me up that he writes like that, but I got him 10 Star Wars novels on ebay for Christmas and he read them all so I'm sure that's where he learned it!

We don't have a half price books 'round here. But we do have a used bookstore called McKays - loooove that place.

    Blessings...

I miss little people books ~ I truly miss reading to my girls. Every Fall and Christmas we drap the childrens seasonal books down and reread our favorites.

  6. Looks like you did quite well at the sale. Its probably a good thing I didn't know it was going on as I have a weakness for books too; however, I am currently in a reading funk. I am reading a really good book but can't seem to find the time to finish it, but I want to finish it so I am currently paying a daily fine at our county library to keep it since I couldn't renew it. Happy reading!
