I'm not much of a conspiracy theorist...but this is definitely a conspiracy. The red plastic spray paint is out to get me. Honest.
So everyone has all these amazing makeovers with nothing but spray paint. I especially loved Easy Peasy Grandma's lawn furniture makeover. I thought to myself, "Hey, I can do that!" I mean how hard can operating a can of spray paint be? And I had the perfect candidates:
These lovely forest green lawn chairs has been sitting in my basement for about 7 years...since my house burned and they were on the deck.
They have this nasty smoky scum that will not come off no matter how much I scrub them. It looks nasty and depresses me too much to use them...but they were too good to throw away? So in the basement they sit. Until I bought some plastic spray paint.
I decided on patriotic blue and red...love all things patriotic, plus our school colors are red white and blue...so the colors never go out of style, right? Here they are after 1 coat of paint.
Now for the conspiracy part: it took 1 and a half cans of blue paint for 2 chairs. I have used 3 cans of paint on the 2 red chairs...and still can't get them completely covered. THAT is the conspiracy. The red spray paint is out to get me.
So I give...the spray paint wins. 3 cans later I refuse to buys a 4th can of red paint. It's not perfect, but it's better than it was. That's all a girl can ask for I guess.

no one will ever notice! They look great!
ReplyDeleteLOL, sounds fishy to me! I have a lot of projects that turn out this way for me, too. Looks great, though!!
ReplyDeleteThey do look great. I encountered a spray paint conspiracy once too. The plastic spray paint peeled off the plastic. I think it was too cold to be painting though
ReplyDeleteI think they look great! I did notice when I painted the little yellow chairs that the premium Krylon, the one with the nozzle on the top worked better. You are right though if you have to go and buy another can of paint then you might as well buy another chair! I like the red too bad it was a conspiracy!
ReplyDeleteThanks for following my blog. I came here to return the favor. I am glad I did! I have to get some of that spray paint pronto. I have 2 chairs that need some serious love!
ReplyDeleteI think they look great...probably would look better with one more can of spray paint though...
ReplyDeleteMy Mom did that like 10 years ago, I think they lasted about 3 years! And that was when spray paint was kinda crappy! LOL Yours look fabulous! Great job!
ReplyDeleteI've been meaning to do this all summer- yours have reminded/reinspired me; thank you!
ReplyDeleteThey turned out really great!
ReplyDeleteI had purchased Krylon for plastics a while back with the same intention. Our chairs are white and they show dirt really easy. I wound up using the paint on other craft projects before I had the time to do the chairs.
I really must control myself..lol.
Thanks for sharing!
Love them! I think that's a great idea.
