Rodeo Road: Living it up over Cowboy Christmas

Last week I shared how we cowboys and cowgirls call the weekend of the 4th of July "Cowboy Christmas" because there are so many rodeos. Well, not only did my kids survive the chaos, they thrived and excelled over the busy weekend!

The Old Man was on his own with the bulls at the youth rodeo, but he handled it like a pro, even saving one kid by pulling him up and over the chutes as his bull got a little rowdy and tried to come out over the top of the chutes (not in this photo, I was too excited about the goings on to get a photo of that one).
The bulls seemed to like his style ok; they all bucked pretty well.
And here are the kids in their finest red, white and blue:
Sissy had another great run in the goat tail tying. And isn't her new shirt cute?
And Bubby did great as well. I just love his smile when he competes!
It was super-hot, so we made sure to stay plenty hydrated!
And we took plenty of breaks from the action...
Once again, Sissy won the barrel racing in handy fashion...
And Bubby continues to improve each and every time he and Beavis compete together.
Sissy had a great pole bending run, too, and took home 1st in that event as well..
And Bubby placed really well in poles, too, especially considering it was his first time competing!
Then it was on to down and back, where Sissy got second place...
And Bubby had another smooth run on Beavis to finish out his day.
Then down to Sissy's final event of the day...the advanced got tail tying.
Tons of older girls this weekend (she was the youngest in the class), but she still did great!
All in all, a pretty great showing by the Houins! :)

  2. Love Sissy's fringe flying all over while she rides. I guess that's why they put it on there?

  5. What great pics of your kids. They are too cute and look like they are having a blast. There's nothing like growing up in the country and showing livestock or taking part in the rodeo.
