Run, run, as fast as you can....

That's what runs through my head every time I see a gingerbread house.

Earlier this month, I got to make a milk carton gingerbread house with Bubby at school, which made Sissy remember back to she SHE make a gingerbread house in school.....and make her want to try it again....especially after we saw the ginormous ( yep, that's a Jane word) gingerbread house at the Grand Floridian resort at Disney World....we're talking life-sized with at least 3 grown girls manning the gift shop inside selling shingles from the house, gingerbread houses, gingerbread ornaments and other goodies. I REALLY want to show you pictures, but they are still on my mom's camera. Later I guess.

She thought I could make one from scratch....but I opted for the gingerbread kit (Remember? I'm still dishwasher-less). We picked out a little village, figuring the kids could each do a house and decrease the odd's that they'd become bored and leave me finish it myself. Wrong.

So here's a look at the houses once the walls went up...

But that was really the only part the boys were interested in, and they soon abandoned Sissy and I.

Sissy really work hard on her creations...though we certainly were not overly detail-oriented if you know what I mean.

But there you go, our own little gingerbread village...all set to grace the table for brunch on Christmas morn. And enough icing and other decor left to decorate our not-so-made-from-scratch Christmas cookies this year. Not perfect, but good enough for a 7-year old and her non-detail-oriented momma.

  1. I keep thinking we might try that Christmas 2011. This year was just too chaotic! Looks kind of fun, and the girls should be good to go at 7 & 9. YIKES! That's what I have to look forward to next year! My babies are growing up way too fast!

  4. This non-detailed orientated mama had her mama bring us that same kit. Then this mama sent that kids and that kit over to her mother in law's house to make the gingerbread houses. You are doing SO MUCH better than me. I simply handed off!
