kodakThe Killamanjaro Safari is one of my favorite things to do at Animal Kingdom...right up there with Expedition Everest. So it was definitely a "must" at Disney World. I've been uploading pics like crazy this week to take advantage of the print sales at both Snapfish & Kodak Gallery (though I must confess, I like my Kodak prints the best...but when push comes to shove in the pocketbook, I'm not that picky).
If you've never been on the safari before, you load up on a truck with a guide with a corny script...then off you go.
Your route can vary depending on the time of day and where the animals located at the time...
According to the guide's script, you are supposedly on the lookout for elephant poachers who have been active in the area.
The guide keeps getting updates from base on where poachers have been spotted and other activity as you make your way around the safari grounds..
There lots of cool wildlife to see, but lots of cool fauna, too....like this upside-down looking tree.
We loved the sets of horns on these Watusi cattle...much bigger than our longhorn cross cattle and bucking bulls back home.
The boys especially loved the giraffes...and I have to admit...they were pretty cute.
As we neared the end of our safari we had to chase off the poachers and rescue the baby elephant and his mom...which were models set up toward the end of the safari.
But a bigger treat was seeing this real baby elephant and his mom. Can you see the baby half hidden by the rocks? One of the things I love about the Killamajaro Safari is that it's different every time...so even if you ride it twice in one day, you see something new. Early morning hours are best for viewing, before it gets too hot, because the animals are more active. Of course, the record low temps while we were there in December were probably enough to keep them active all day long.
Anyway, these pic put me in the mood. I may have to take a trip to the zoo tomorrow. The kids are off school for a conference comp day and I'm in the mood for an outing.

I thought all the animals look GREAT, but I love all pictures with trees, so the tree pics is my favorite!!
