My sleeping bag solution

Sissy & Bubby are excited...they've already selected the church camps they are going to for the summer. This will be Bubby's 1st time going on his own overnight without family! Good thing they are both going the same time to the same camp...just different sessions (and just 1 night for Bubby, please and thank you).

The problem? Sissy has outgrown her Disney princess kid-sized sleeping bag and Bubby doesn't have one.

Never fear! Grandpa to the rescue! he's a camping fiend, and found 2 extra sleeping bags he sent our way. The kids were thrilled!

Next problem? They don't tie shut and they didn't come with storage bags. Hmmmm... Wal Mart and Super Jane to the rescue!

I started out with 2 pillowcases ($4.50) and some ribbon.

I liked the little "decorative" band at the top, so I decided to leave it in place. I cut a little slit in each side of the seam at the end of the pillowcases and threaded the ribbon through for a drawstring...

Ta da! A down & dirty solution! But wait! I'm not down yet!

I picked up some fat quarters on clearance for $.75...

I used some of the kids' sidewalk chalk to freehand some initials onto the fat quarters....

I used some leftover heat bond from the barrel racing shirt I made Sissy last summer and ironed it onto the back...

Then I cut out the letters....

And peeled off the heat bond backing...

I positioned them onto my pillowcases sacks...

Then I ironed them on....

I could have stopped there, but I decided it needed a little orange zig zag stitching around the edges....

Ta da! Here is Sissy's bag....

And Bubby's bag...

I knew the bags were a little too tall for the sleeping bags alone, but I decided to leave them that height anyway....

I think it's perfect sized for bundling their pillow pets right into the sack with their sleeping bags. So, what do you think? I could have positioned the letters a little higher on the pillowcase, but other than that, I'm pretty happy with them. :)

  3. Awesome Blossom! Hey, another idea my mom had a long time ago is to take old comforters and make them into sleeping bags. A full one is plenty roomy for a little girl to snuggle up in ! Love the simplicity of your covers!
