Your focus determines your reality

We recently took the kidders to see the 3D version of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. The kids were impressed, but then again, anything related to Star Wars impresses them. To me it was nothing ground breaking, but it was totally worth it to for the kids to see Phantom Menace on the big screen. What is did get me thinking about were all the amazing quotes in the movie.

Like when Beed, on the right, says during the pod race scene, "I don't care what universe you're from, that's gotta hurt!"

Those cool quotes were still in my mind when I read today's Our Daily Bread. It compares a scene from Star Wars: A New Hope to the mindset we too often have.

It sounds kind of like a joke:

Luke Skywalker, ObiWan Kenobi and their droids walk into a bar of alien freaks. And it's the droids that set off the bartender, "We don't serve their kind here."

How often are we too judgemental of people different from ourselves? I know I'm guilty. Are you? Too often we're most comfortable with those just like ourselves. We all need to focus on removing the "we vs. them"mentality from our lives—and stop focusing on our differences but instead focus on what makes us the same.
