Neither does Super-Wife, Super-Woman or any other superhero. Just me—and mine. And they're just going to have to roll with it.
This week I'm heading to Nashville for my first Blissdom Conference.
And I'm really excited about going, not to mention hanging out with some of my best friends....both in real life and in blog-land.
The sessions look exciting...the presenters amazing...and all the pre-conference blog posts are really helpful. There are some awesome and amazing women coming to this conference who are excited about sharing their knowledge.
I'm really looking forward to a few days away from everyday life. And I'm really looking forward to meeting all of your "Wonder Women" of the blogging world.
That being said, when you meet me, don't be disappointed. Like I said, I'm no super hero. So here are my confessions, my "reality Bliss-check" before I leave home:
- I'm not making freezer meals for my family to enjoy before I leave. Not that there's anything wrong with that, and God bless you if you do it. But I have a full time job and three kids from age 4 to 9. I carefully selected a husband (my real-life college friends have just fallen out of their chairs laughing) that I figured would be capable of fending for himself and my offspring should the need ever arise. I bought him a box of fish sticks and Sam's Club-sized package of mac and cheese. (It's his fave guy food and we NEVER have it when I'm cooking.)
My mom will have the kids for one day and night, and he's taking the 6-year old to make pizza for the Cub Scout fundraiser Saturday morning—so I figure the pizza we bought covers Saturday night. And I left him a list of meal options. If he can't survive on that, he needs to hone his survival skills and this will be good practice. I figure he'll be that much farther ahead should something tragic ever happen to me—and he won't be wandering around in a stupor expecting my ghost to restock him with freezer meals. - I've not planned my arrival. My flight is booked, my room reserved and my transportation to Opryland arranged. I'm not a frequent flyer, so I still need to check the route to the airport, read baggage restrictions and figure out how long I need to get there before my flight. I'm clueless about that stuff. And I probably won't figure it out until tomorrow.
- My Blissdom prep guide is still empty. See above. Plus, there's time on the flight for that stuff, right?
- I didn't go shopping for new clothes. What you see is what you get. What will I be wearing? Who knows. I haven't packed yet. Pretty sure it's going to entail jeans. And there are no sparkly cocktail dresses in my closet either. Sorry. That's just not how this farmgirl, working momma of three rolls.
- I'm looking forward to a FABULOUS time with my two very bestest friends in the whole world, so I'm going to have to remind myself to expand my comfort zone and meet new folks.
Oh, yeah - and I'm really hoping that some time away will make my family REALLY miss me by the time I get back. I love being home with them, but when Daddy's the one who travels the most, I have to admit - I'm looking forward to that jubilant scream of, "Mommy's home! Mommy's home!" when I get back. I don't think that makes me a bad mom, just not SUPERmom, right?
Anyone else have some confessions to share?
Have a great trip and a great time superJane!
